St. Mary's Grammar School

The school was founded in 1927 by Monsignor John Ward, Parish Priest of Magherafelt, to provide secondary education for Catholic girls of the area under the direction of the Sisters of the Holy Family of Bordeaux.

Aims of the School

To strive to develop the Catholic faith, to foster moral development, Christian values and the spiritual growth of each child and to provide religious education for all.

To develop and manage a learning environment which takes account of developing technologies and is conducive to the highest academic, sporting and cultural achievements.

To prepare pupils for the opportunities, experiences and responsibilities of adult and working life.

To encourage pupils in the pursuit of academic excellence by providing a broad, balanced and challenging curriculum which takes account of the new and retains what has been found valuable.

To develop, recognise and value pupils as individuals with their own talents and personalities and as members of the school community.

To encourage pupils to reach out to the wider community including other denominations, traditions and cultures.

To promote the well being and professional development of staff.

To encourage the active participation of parents in the educational life of their children and the school.
