St. Mary's Grammar School

The Team of 1994

The team of 1994 were trail-blazers in the history of Gaelic Football at St. Mary's. A team littered with outstanding players. They won the All-Ireland after having dominated Ulster, winning 3 MacLarnon cup titles in a row. A number of players went on to have notable inter county careers, notably Joe Cassidy and Johnny McBride with Derry and Antrim's Kevin Madden.

This team was full of talent. Cathal Diamond was a massive presence at centre half back and Brian Lavery and Gerard Cassidy were exceptional. Gerard was only a year 11 at that stage.

The following year, 1995, the school played in the MacRory cup for first time losing by a point to St.Colman's, Newry after having topped their group.

The following year the team reached the school's first ever final losing to Maghera.

This team inspired generations of pupils and their achievements played a major role in future successes.

Thanks lads.
