St. Mary's Grammar School

Bienvenue/ Bienvenidos/ Fáilte Romhat!

The Modern Languages’ Department in St. Mary’s Grammar School were delighted to welcome Dr Daniel McAuley from Queen’s University to speak with Year 12 students regarding the vast array of careers and opportunities that learning another language provides. This collaborative event saw students from Rainey Endowed join for what proved to be a beneficial, informative and educational morning.

Dr McAuley focused on the skills that employers are seeking out in the global job market currently. Language learning helps develop self-confidence, promotes problem solving, encourages better decision making and leads to enhanced communication and presentation skills. The careers of former graduates were showcased and covered a wide number of sectors, from roles in media to advocacy and diplomacy to translation and software design and management. Undoubtedly, the pursuit of a language at A Level and beyond helps set you apart in a crowded job market!
