Art & Design Department attend a talk by Artist Rita Duffy

On Thursday 12th October 2023 our Year 11,12,13 & 14 students were invited to attend a creative workshop and talk by the renowned Irish artist Rita Duffy at the Homeplace Centre, Bellaghy.

During the workshop the artist Rita Duffy delivered a very interesting talk and displayed a range of her work. The artist spoke to the students about how she generates her ideas and how they then translate into her work. Students were able to ask the artist about her work which was also very useful in terms of making connections to their work and it also gave them the opportunity to speak to an artist working in a real-world context.

The workshop was brilliantly facilitated by the centre and our pupils really enjoyed every minute of it alongside other GCSE Art & Design pupils from different schools.

One Year 13 student said, The workshop talk was very inspirational. I felt Rita Duffy displayed a great variety of artworks, completed in a range of media and contexts. I will use concepts and techniques she discussed to benefit my own work. It was a really worthwhile experience.’
